Day 43: Wind

Well, today started off with a "Forever Dam."  What is a Forever Dam you may ask?  Well, a Forever Dam is a dam which can be seen from anywhere from 2-5 miles out and as such seems to take forever to get to.  In case you are wondering no that's not fun.  Moving on. The morning was cool but comfortable and the clouds passed us by an waited politely till the reached the opposite shore before dumping their payload.  While crossing the large open lake that often forms above a dam shots rang out as duck hunters took aim at flocks of ducks overhead.  This of course was terrifying to Reggie and before we knew it he had jumped right in front of where Dave was sitting in the stern.  Huddled between his legs Reggies heart Rate gradually lowered but there he stayed all the way across the lake till we reached the Dam.  After the dam the wind, which had picked up noticeably before the dam now became deafening.  We pulled into a Marina in Clinton, Iowa both to fill our water jug and get a burger.  By that point we had made good progress on the day and shoved off.  From that point on the wind only got worse.  We stopped about 10 miles down in Albany, Illinois.  We switched on the weather radio and the news was not good.  NOAA forecasted 20 mph winds with gusts up to 40!  We made our best attempt but after about two hours we were whooped and things were getting dicey so we found an odd little point out of the wind.  Enjoy the pictures!
